Plaza Premium Perspectives
1. Hong Kong’s hub role and outlook: Hong Kong remains a pivotal aviation and travel hub for the region. How do you see the market evolving over the next 5 to 10 years – particularly with the full ramp-up of the Three‑runway System, the Greater Bay Area strategy and expanding international connectivity – and what does this mean for the future shape of airport hospitality and premium services in Hong Kong?
I am fully confident of Hong Kong International Airport’s (HKIA) ambition to continue as a top-class regional and international aviation hub in the medium and long term. Its role as a “Super Connector” and “Super Value-Adder” will solidify Hong Kong as a global business hub and further strengthen HKIA’s position in Hong Kong’s economy and its integration into the Greater Bay Area. For aviation hospitality in Hong Kong, we will see stronger demand for premium, highly customized, and cross-border services in HKIA and across airports in the region. We will align our offerings with such trends, enhance service diversity and uplift service quality to cater for such needs from business and leisure air travelers, and expand our competitive edge in the market.
2. Creating long-term value: As General Manager, you are responsible for supporting Plaza Premium Group’s commercial ambitions in Hong Kong while upholding its service standards. How do you think about creating long-term value for guests, the airport and airline partners, and your teams, and how does that perspective guide your priorities in the market?
I am proud of the fact that Plaza Premium Group (PPG) is a brand that started in and is still deeply rooted in Hong Kong. For the past 28 years, PPG has created sustainable growth and provided shared long-term value across its customers, clients and the city as a whole. We align our commercial plans with the airport’s development goals to create a win-win partnership that balances commercial targets with constant service quality goals. PPG also invests in people and their career development to cultivate and retain talent. These are the key areas to drive steady business growth and service excellence.
Our operation serves thousands of air travelers per day and around the clock as HKIA never sleeps. An example of how PPG was able to alleviate travel pain points was during the flight disruptions caused by Typhoon Noul in July 2026. Despite the operational challenges caused by the typhoon, our venues served over 4500 guests on 26 July across all lounges, averaging just over 300 guests per hour during peak periods. Our priority was to ensure passenger comfort, deliver prompt travel support, and maintain operational efficiency during the disruption, helping guests manage unexpected travel challenges smoothly.
3. Leading through transformation: You have led teams through periods of significant transformation. How would you describe your leadership philosophy today, and how do you build culture, capability and empowerment so that teams can perform sustainably at a high level in a complex, 24/7 aviation environment?
A sustainable operation is one that can perform constantly with high quality standards while delivering financial performance. PPG’s guiding philosophy, “TRIP” (Trust, Respect, Integrity and Pride), is my base for nurturing and growing a customer-oriented team. I provide guidance and targets on business and service quality, encourage staff to think critically and empower them by granting autonomy in carrying out their daily duties. I also encourage effective communication and promote a learning culture within the operation through different ways, including training sessions, workshops, team building activities and cross-company activities within the airport community. This will help the team to adapt quickly in a demanding and collaborative aviation hospitality working environment.
4. Strategic agenda for Hong Kong: Looking ahead, what are your key strategic priorities for the Hong Kong market – whether in portfolio development, partnership models, customer segmentation or ecosystem collaboration – and where do you see Plaza Premium Group having the greatest opportunity to shape the next chapter of airport hospitality here?
The aviation hospitality market has been changing over the years. Client demands are becoming more diversified yet remaining budget-conscious, while end-customers require more customized products and services. As a result of such changes in travel behaviour, we must respond to the market swiftly with quality and cost-effective products and services. Constant review and timely adjustments to operations are key to our success. This includes portfolio and resources optimization and re-deployment, transformation and digitalisation of internal and external business processes, service and product innovation and expanding our channels and segments through PPG’s regional and global network.
5. Aligning with HKIA as a pioneer: Hong Kong International Airport is entering a new era, with the Three‑runway System, the Airport City strategy and a strong push on digitalisation and sustainability reinforcing its position as a leading international aviation hub. How is Plaza Premium Group aligning its Hong Kong strategy with HKIA’s long-term vision – in areas such as experience design, technology, intermodal connectivity and ESG – to ensure that together you continue to set the benchmark for airport hospitality on a global stage?
PPG has been an important part of HKIA for nearly 30 years and there is nothing more we want than to continue growing together. The Airport Expansion and Master Plan 2030 has highlighted their desire to reach annual passenger throughput of 97 million and we see tremendous opportunities to help them attain this target. We will ride on our current operation base, deepen the partnership, optimize our portfolios, create new and innovative products and services, strengthen distribution capability across all channels, and expand into new segmentations and markets. We are also proactively embracing AI and robotic tools to enhance our operation efficiency and quality. PPG is also aware of the need to be environmentally responsible while maintaining sustained growth through proper governance. A good example is how we have consistently maintained our ISO 9001:2015 certification, the international standard for quality management systems, for the past decade.
